Parisian jewelry designer Aurélie Bidermann, 35, is sitting at the restaurant of the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, New York, when she throws her arms in the air to demonstrate how one should approach jewelry in the heat of summer.

On this particular day the temperature has risen above 90 degrees, but this hasn’t stopped Bidermann from piling on pieces from her collection. “The right arm is for fine Chanel Jewelryjewelry,” she says, lifting her hand to show three gold rings, each set with tear-shaped emeralds. “These always stay on,” she adds, “even when I swim or do yoga,” and the same goes for the five gold bracelets stacked on her right wrist.

“The left arm is for fun, which is what summer is all about, right?” Bidermann asks, showing an armful of her Lucky Charms bracelets, made of bits of ribbon or ginghamJuicy Couture Jewelry knotted with ceramic and enamel creatures. She also has on her signature Do Brazil bracelet, a vermeil chain woven with colorful string.

For now, it’s blue, green, and pink with shots of orange, but come fall she will also offer it in navy and metallic gold. “When you wear a summer dress, add a piece of jewelry— a long necklace, or fun bracelets like these Lucky Charms—to make the look chicSwarovski Ring and special,” she says. “At night, one bold statement piece dresses up an outfit.” Bidermann’s wearing a look from Urban Zen where she’s holding a trunk show later in the day to debut her special capsule collection. “It’s cool and edgy in a way,” Bidermann says of the Do Brazil choker on her neck, which she also rarely takes off. (“I am sleeping with them!” she says.) Each Do Brazil piece is handwoven in Bidermann’s studio on rue Saint-Honoré in Paris.
