A 60-foot fire tower was installed here as an attraction in 1968.  It has to be removed in 1982 due to safety concerns.  This will be the site for the new visitor center to be constructed on Caladesi.

Bio:
On October 25, 1921 a hurricane separated Hog Island at the part of the island referred to as "the narrows." The separated islands were known as Hog Island and Scharrer's Island. In 1928 the island's name was officially changed to Caladesi Island. Thanks in large part to the passion and persistence of Gerald Rehm, then mayor of Dunedin, Caladesi Island became a state park in 1967.
