Battlefield Heroes is created by EA DICE. It's a casual and cartoony third person shooter that you can pick up and play during break times. It's the first of its kind that allows free online play and the game funds itself with a micropayment system. That means you can pay for in game items such as weapons, outfits, and widgets. The system works quite well and you can still play the game without paying a dime should you choose.

What separates this game from other war shooters is that your character can level up and increase his special abilities which allows him to do things that other serious games cannot. What abilities your character has depends on the class that you choose and there are three classes to choose from. Here are some examples of the abilities, but this is just a limited list.

A commando has the ability to go in stealth and become completely invisible at a distance. How close you can creep up to your enemy before being seen depends on how high your stealth ability is. There's also a poison blade ability if you like to stab your enemy in the back and watch them choke to death. The Elixir ability allows the commando to run extremely fast while minimizing damage.

The soldier comes with combat medicine which allows him to heal himself and his teammates around him. He can also use burning bullets which, as the name suggests, burns the enemies when they're shot. Sixth sense allows himself and surrounding teammates to see through walls so they can know the enemy's position.

The gunner has the shield ability that provides himself and nearby teammates with shield to minimize damage. Explosive keg can be tossed at enemies to slow them down so you can shoot at them like sitting ducks. The gunner also has the I Eats Grenades ability that when used, can absorb explosive damages to heal himself.

The commando is a lot of fun if you like to sneak around and stab people in the back or snipe from far away. The soldier is a great supporting player that relies on strategy to help his team win. The gunner is a tank on legs with lots of health and ammo. All classes are unique and fun to play. You can create characters for all three classes if you like.

The game is separated into two teams. The Royals, who obviously resemble the British army, and the Nationals, who resemble the Nazi. You can select which team you want to create a player for and you can also create characters for both teams. The team with 50 kills first will win the game.

There are two ways to purchase in game items like weapons, outfits, emotes, and widgets. You can earn Valor Points by completing missions and use them to purchase items for temporary usage, or purchase Battlefunds with real cash and use them to purchase items for either temporary or unlimited usage. You can purchase items for a day, a week, a month, or unlimited.

There are a wide variety of weapons to choose from. There are short, medium, and long range super and uber weapons. There's a ship's cannon that you can carry around if you're a gunner. There's also a wide variety of pistols and shotguns and sniper rifles. There are also knives and grenades to play with.

Widgets include an anti-burning-bullets underwear that will increase your health if you've been hit by burning bullets. You can purchase health tonics to heal yourself on the spot. There's also a wrench to repair your vehicle. You can purchase emotes to taunt your enemies after a kill or use them to communicate with your teammates. My personal favorite is the chicken emote that makes your character flap his arms. Emotes really get on your enemy's nerves, but they're really fun to use.

Battlefield Heroes is a blast to play. You can play this game without ever paying a dime and you'll still have loads of fun. You'll have even more fun once you get enough Valor Points or Battlefunds so you can spend them on cool outfits and other items. This game gets two thumbs up from me.
